Advanced Studies Academy

In early 2015, Grupo de Veinte opened its first Advanced Studies Academy (Grupo de Estudios Avanzados) in Velille, Peru.  We need to purchase all of the textbooks for the various classes being offered in the Academy for the first class of 25 students ranging in age from 7 to 12 years.

The children live at the school, because it takes two hours for them to walk one way to school each day and an additional two hours to return home.  Sometimes the weather is extremely cold, rainy and windy and there is always a possibility of lightning strikes because the area is above 11,000 feet and above the treeline.  An “internado” (dormitory) was opened for them in January. They stay at the school during the week and go home on the weekends.   In the past two years, Grupo furnished and opened a dining hall and kitchen to feed the elderly and young school children in Velille.  The kitchen now also feeds the children attending the Academy three meals a day.
